...So we all got on a commercial flight at Fort Campbell. It felt like going to Basic Training all over again. Going into the unknown. The first flight was to Texas or somewhere on the Eastern coastline of the United Stated where we had a short break. Then we flew to Germany where we had a few hours of layover. And then back on the plane again to fly to Kuwait in the middle of the night. I’m not sure when it happened but on one of those flights I remember sitting there in my seat surrounded by everyone else in their military uniforms and all holding our personal weapons in our laps. It hit me; we’re going to war, and the thought occurred to me for the very first time that I may die or I may have to kill someone. I was immediately gripped by fear and a deep overwhelming dread. And just as fast I closed my eyes and silently prayed and gave my fears to God. From that moment on I had a peace about those two things. I was mentally prepared for whatever came next...
